There Were A Couple Of Tornados In East Texas ...

last week. The photos are of a house that was pretty well destroyed about six miles west of where Dudley's in laws live. The man and his wife that own the house are related to one of Dudley's wife's college roommates. She said they were home when the tornado hit and they suffered lacerations and contusions but no broken bones and they escaped without any serious injury. From the looks of what is left of the house they were lucky. Dudley has a healthy respect for tornadoes but has always been fascinated with them.

Saw This Yesterday On The Barrett Jackson Auto Auction ...

from Scottsdale Arizona. It was a 1952 Ford with a matching Kom Pak Sportsman trailer. It is pretty cool. The roof of the trailer is a 12 foot metal boat which can be removed and put back in place by one man. I think it had some kind of a roller system to aid with getting the boat on and off the trailer. Carry one of the outboard motors of the era and you would be ready to go do some fishing. Pretty Cool!

Today Is A Big Day Here At The Dudley Domicile ...

Photobucket

Lizzie is going to get her braces off today! She has been wearing them for several years and will no doubt be glad to see them go. Dudley's little girl is beautiful inside and out. Not much else going on today. Dudley is busy watching the Barrett Jackson Auction every day this week. Dudley needs to win the Lottery so he can buy a few of the great vehicles he has been seeing. Dudley would like to have a restored late 40's or early 50's Chevy step side pick up and there are so many late 60's and early 70's Muscle Cars to choose from. Dudley favors the Chevy Camaros, Corvettes, and Chevelles and perhaps throw in a Chevy Nomad. Then there are the MoPars, the Challengers, Cuda's and Roadrunners. Maybe one or two GTOs as well. Damn Dudley is dreaming now, might as well go take a nap.

1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 ...

Dudley got a new one of these when he was in college. Best car Dudley ever owned. Dudley's was silver with black vinyl interior. Dudley's had body color racing mag wheels and the same engine and four speed transmission. Dudley drove the hell out of that car and enjoyed every minute of it!

Dudley Has Enjoyed Playing This Game Today ...

called Tiger's Transgressions. You can find it by clicking here. It is great for those like Dudley with a lot of free time to kill. I found the link to this game over on Becky's Blog. Dudley is easily amused.

Dudley Just Got Through Watching The Dallas Cowboys Lose ...

to the Minnesota Vikings. Well there is always next year. Had a good lunch today, fried catfish, steak and some grilled Sika tenderloins. Frank went fishing yesterday morning in his kayak on the Brazos River. He launched at the Stone Bridge at daybreak and paddled his kayak up near the dam. He was trying to catch a large Striped Bass, there are some monsters in the river. This time of the year they feed on the hatchery Rainbow Trout that they put in the river for fisherman to catch. Frank was matching the hatch with his Abu Garcia Baitcasting Reel and his Big Ugly Stick rod throwing a six inch Bomber 16J Saltwater Jointed Minnow in a Rainbow Trout pattern. He paddled and fished several miles up and down from the Stone Arch Bridge but did not get one strike. When you are trophy fishing that is the way it is most of the time. You fish hoping for that one big strike. Frank said he jumped a lot of ducks off the water and watched them fly and saw several get shot down by duck hunters hidden off to the side of the river. He quit going up river when he rounded a bend and watched an unseen hunter drop a duck that fell about 90 feet up river from his kayak. He will have to go back after duck season if he wants to go up river to the cable just below the dam. On the way back to the bridge and down river a lot of the purist fly fisherman were out in full force up and down the riverbank trying to catch the small hatchery trout. Frank said most of them were pretty friendly though he did run into one asshole that was perturbed that Frank floated by in his kayak and he voiced his opinion that Frank had messed up his fishing for the day. I guess the idiot thought he was on a private trout stream in Montana fishing for wild trout and not on a public river in Texas catching eight inch long hatchery trout released a few days earlier that have never eaten anything other than floating fish food out of a paper bag.

The Maytag Repairman Came Out Today ...

and replaced the timer and water valve in the washer and it is now running better than new. That is the good news, the bad news is I had him look at the dryer and asked him to lubricate the bearings as they were squeaking again. I have had the bearings greased in the past and figured they just needed some more. He opened the dryer up and said the bearings are completely shot and need to be replaced along with the shaft. Again he is going to have to order the parts and come out next week and install them. The bill that was going to be around $225.00 is going to be a lot more. He did say we are better off repairing the ten plus year old Maytag washer and dryer we have. He said they were built half way decent. He said the units they are selling now are not worth a damn. He said they generally crater after about three years. I guess the Maytag Corporation like everything else in this country has gone to hell in a hand basket.

The Maytag Repairman Came Out Today ...

and allowed we needed a new timer and water control valve to fix our washer. He did not have the parts on hand so he said he would locate the parts and call me and let me know how much the repairs would cost. I just heard from him and he said the cost to repair will be around $225.00. I told him to go ahead and get the parts and he said he would do so and would come back out tomorrow and fix the washer. This is going to make a big dent in the monthly budget so Dudley better go break into the piggy bank and see if he can scrape up enough money to make it to the end of the month. Something is always breaking or in need of repair around the Dudley domicile. It never ends.

Dudley Needs To Get This Guy To Come Out Of Retirement ...

because our old Maytag washer is on the blink. Why does it always seem like something is breaking or in need of repair around the Dudley domicile? Guess that is just the way it is. Dudley started calling the appliance repairman he normally calls last week and found out this morning he is in the hospital with pneumonia. I hope he makes a complete recovery and gets to feeling better soon but Dudley can not wait any longer. The natives are getting restless not being able to wash their clothes and one trip to the Laundromat must have been enough. Dudley called his mother and got the name and number for her repairman and Dudley gave him a call and he is going to come out tomorrow. The old washer is not wanting to drain the water and enter into the spin cycle for some reason. Hopefully the repair will not break the bank. Will know more tomorrow.

Frank Got Back From His Duck Hunting Trip ...

on Saturday. He and his buddy Hunter who lives in Dallas went out to Hunter's families ranch Thursday evening. They stopped in Weatherford and ate dinner and watched the BCS National Championship Football Game and then went out to the ranch located in Palo Pinto county north of Possum Kingdom Reservoir and the Brazos River. They spent the night in the camp house and got up early the next morning and went duck hunting on one of the many tanks on the ranch. The temperature was only about 12 degrees above zero. Frank said they froze their butts off but there were a few ducks flying in the bitter cold. They put a few decoys out the night before and by daybreak the were frozen in place with a layer of ice over most of the lake. Frank said the first duck he bagged was a Mallard Drake. Later in the morning he bagged a Mallard Hen. Both ducks fell out in the middle of the lake in the icy water. They decided to wait until the afternoon for it to warm up into the twenties before Hunter would brave trying to chop through the ice and wade out in his chest waders to retrieve Frank's ducks. They went back to the camp house after hunting for a couple of hours to try and thaw out. When they went back out Hunter used a log to chop through the ice and waded out to the ducks. He retrieved the Mallard Hen first and when he got to the Drake, he discovered a hawk or other predator had beat him to the duck. There were only feathers left. That night they went out driving around the ranch with a spotlight hoping to get a shot at a coyote or pasture poodle or a fox or bobcat. They did not see any varmints but did see a bunch of deer that were all bedded down in the brush. They went hunting Saturday morning but the lake was frozen over completely and Frank said they saw a lot of ducks but none of them got in range for a shot as they could tell the lake was frozen over and their were no good place for them to land. That afternoon they went out to the rifle range and shot Hunter's new Bushmaster AR-15. Frank had a great time duck hunting and riding around on the 2000 acre ranch. Hopefully Frank will get invited to go back and go duck hunting again or perhaps go deer hunting. When Frank got back home, he grilled his duck and some whitetail and fallow back strap wrapped in bacon out on the grill and we watched the Dallas Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles. Man it does not get much better than that!

Dudley Was Sad To Hear Of The Death Of Art Clokey ...

If I had heard his name a week ago, I would not have had any idea who he was. I saw on the news yesterday he had passed away and now know him as the creator of Gumby and Pokey which were one of the many toys Dudley enjoyed as a small child. Dudley was also surprised to hear he also was the creator of Davey and Goliath which Dudley watched often as a small child. Another part of Dudley's childhood is gone. Thanks for what you did Art, you touched many lives through your work. May you Rest In Peace.

Dudley Is Not Feeling Well Today ...

and thinks he may be coming down with a head cold. Not much going on today but did receive two big boxes full of frozen deer meat from the processor. Waiting on Frank to get home from work so he can clean out the freezer in the garage and put the meat in there. It is going to get so cold the next few days Frank is not going to be working. He is leaving tomorrow afternoon with a friend to go out to Palo Pinto County west of Fort Worth. His friends father owns a ranch out there and they are going to go duck hunting. Frank never has been duck hunting so it should be a lot of fun. They may get in some quail hunting and dove hunting as well. It is going to be brutally cold so I hope the camp house they are going to be staying in has a good heater in it. This brings back a lot of bitter sweet memories for Dudley as he spent a lot of great times on his Uncles Ranch out in Palo Pinto County hunting, fishing, four wheeling and camping out down in the Brazos River Bottom. Those were the good old days for sure.

Dudley Bought Two Dozen Heddon Collectible Punkinseed Christmas Ornaments ...

and they came yesterday. Dudley is glad he bought them when he did at $12.99 per set. Wish I had bought more as they are selling on EBay for around $30.00 per set. We are going to have one more day of cold weather here at the Dudley domicile and then it is going to be brutally cold with the next cold front that is on the way. It is supposed to get down into the teens. Dudley does not like cold weather any more. It was invigorating back in my youth but now that my muscles have deteriorated a good deal my bones don't have near as much insulation as they once did. We live in an older house that has old single pane windows and they let in a lot of cold air. At least we have a good central heating system, just hope we will be able to pay the gas bill next month as I anticipate it is going to go way up. Was disappointed last night to see the Frogs lose the Fiesta Bowl. The team we had been watching all season failed to show up. Will watch the Mavericks tonight, hope they can rebound from the ass kicking the Lakers put on them the other evening.

Dudley Is Getting Ready To Watch The Fiesta Bowl ...

tonight. Dudley and family will be cheering on the hometown university. TCU should win this game, the way they have been playing, I think they can beat any college team out there. The City of Fort Worth has been supporting the team as have many local businesses. Dudley did not go to TCU but his mother and father both have degrees from TCU. Dudley was given the choice of going there and living at home or going to any State University and living in the dorm. Dudley chose SFA in East Texas because of it's proximity to some of the best bass fishing in the State of Texas. Hey there is more to life than higher learning. The college experience is a great time in a young persons life. Better enjoy it while you can because soon after graduating life gets a lot more complicated in a hurry. We are in store for some brutally cold weather later on this week. Dudley is not going to get out any more than he has to this week. Go Frogs!

Dudley Has Lost Count Of The Number Of Football Games ...

he has watched the last three days. Just got through watching the Cowboys beat the Eagles and tomorrow am looking forward to watching TCU win the Fiesta Bowl. Will be watching the Mavericks try to beat the Lakers again later this evening. Not much else of note going on here at the Dudley domicile. Things have been pretty quiet which is the way Dudley likes it.

This Is A Funny Commercial ...

Dudley Really Likes This Commercial ...

Happy New Year From Dudleys Diary ...

and Charlie Brown and the gang. Dudley grew up with Charlie Brown and had a male Beagle for a pet growing up named Snoopy if you can imagine that. Snoopy was a great dog and helped Dudley make it through many of the trials and tribulations of growing up. Growing up was especially tough on a kid like myself with an undiagnosed Neuro Muscular Disease. I was uncoordinated as a kid and was not very good at athletic endeavors. If I ran more than a few steps I was out of breath. I could sympathize with poor Charlie Brown and felt a lot of his pain growing up. Dudley had a little better luck competing at school work than on the playground but had to really work at it. Dudley's sister was a lot smarter and things seemed to come a lot easier for her. Dudley persevered and did the best he could in spite of his limitations. Dudley is not sure what the new year will bring but he is sure of one thing like Charlie Brown, Dudley is going to keep trying.
