Texans Know How To Deal With Looters ...

It Looks Like New Orleans Is Going To Get Hit ...

by another category four or five hurricane. Will the levees hold or won't they? If the city floods a second time I hope someone might get the idea finally that it is not a good idea to build a town that is below sea level in a hurricane prone coastal area. Dudley is enjoying watching all of the hurricane preparations on the news. At least the good citizens of New Orleans had the good sense this time to get off of their ass and evacuate. Well on second thought they were ordered out this time. I guess that doesn't count does it? I saw Mayor Ray Nagin on the tube a little while ago threatening that any looters would be dealt with severely this time and they would be immediately transported to Angola State Prison. Sounds like a hollow threat to Dudley. If memory serves, I think several members of the New Orleans P. D. were some of the worst offenders after Katrina. How about issuing an order to shoot to kill any and all looters on sight. That might get their attention but then again probably not.

Dudley Has Finally Decided What Kind Of Sub Compact Pistol He Wants To Buy ...

A Springfield Armory XD9. I learned of this gun from reading Hermits blog the other day when someone asked his thoughts on the best compact 9mm for concealed carry purposes. One of Hermits readers suggested this pistol. I have been researching the gun and it is just what I have been looking for. I have heard of Springfield guns for years and thought they catered to the high end custom market. From the reviews I have read, this gun appears to be of high quality and very reliable and more importantly safe. I have been carrying a snub nose Taurus five shot revolver in a belly type holster. I have been a little leery of carrying a loaded and cocked Glock or similar gun as they do not have an external safety. This gun has a grip safety as well as trigger safety similar to the Glock. When you hold the gun in a shooting grip, the grip safety is automatically depressed and you simply pull the trigger and the gun fires. Dudley is going to order this gun in black with night sights installed at the factory. The gun is not cheap but should be worth every dollar. Dudley used to own and shoot a Beretta 92F but it was too big for practical concealed carry. The XD9 looks like a winner.

Dudley Called The High School This Morning ...

and spoke to Lizzie's counselor. When she came home from her first day of school yesterday she said "they" messed up her schedule and she was not signed up for soccer. Dudley asked her about it and she insisted she wants to play soccer. Dudley had no idea who her counselor would be this year but he got lucky. When he called the counselors office, the guy that answered the phone just happened to be her counselor. No chance of being told to leave a message or being put on hold for an extended period of time. Dudley told him of the class schedule not including soccer and he advised he would call Lizzie into his office and get this taken care of. When I spoke to Lizzie later in the afternoon she said she now is in soccer class. She acted a little perturbed that I had intervened but I think she knows I care about her and just want to help. Dudley still feels like crap. He has a sinus infection. I now realize I caught a cold or some type of respiratory infection from Lizzie, she was sick and coughing last week. I called my primary care physician and left a message for the doctor to please call a RX for an antibiotic into my pharmacy but no one ever called me back or called the pharmacy. I am going to the pulmonologist tomorrow for a regularly scheduled appointment. Hopefully he will write me a RX so I can get this cleared up. Dudley has not been able to breath well with his Bipap machine and oxygen concentrator due to the congestion and has not been getting much sleep. Will see what happens tomorrow at the doctors office.

The 2008 Democratic Covention Starts Today, Let the LYIN Begin ...

Ready Or Not, It's The First Day Of School ...

Things sure have changed a lot since I was in school. When I was a kid all you needed the first day of school was a Big Chief writing tablet and a #2 pencil. Oh and a new pair of blue jeans, a new shirt and a new pair of Keds or Converse or PF Flyers tennis shoes. I don't remember seeing armed policeman or having to worry about being shot at school. Times have sure changed and not for the better I am afraid. I saw on t.v. the other day about some company is now making bullet proof back packs for children to take to school to be used as a shield when the bullets start flying. It is a crazy world we live in now. What a shame.

Frank Went Fishing On A Creek Yesterday ...

and caught three sunfish. These are photos of the two of them. He had a good time but did not fish for very long. He went to a different creek this time because access to the creek where he had been catching all of his fish has been shut off. What a shame because for a while this summer he was able to drive his truck down to the creek bank and unload his kayak and he has been catching a lot of fish down there. He walked in to the creek he fished yesterday and did not take his kayak, he fished from the bank with his fly rod. He said he and his buddy may go back out to the golf course this evening and fish out there. He hasn't been there in a pretty good while, I hope they get to go and catch some fish.

Dudley Woke Up This Morning Feeling Like ...

Fidos Ass. I learned that term from the late great Acidman. I know the picture is not of a dog but a Koala Bear. It will have to do as I don't feel like searching for a more suitable one. Why do I feel like crap you wonder. Well my neighbors dog barked until nearly three o'clock this morning. I have enough trouble trying to sleep without the added burden of a barking dog. On top of that I woke up with a terrible headache, my head is stopped up and I basically feel like shit. The city I live in has a noise ordinance. Perhaps I should print it out and go tape it to my neighbors front door. Do you think they would get the message?

Boomoirs is an eyewitness reference for the baby boomer generation, a depot for the reminiscences and memoirs of those who grew up through the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. He had done a Google search and found a post Dudley had done concerning Fallout Shelters. It seems he liked my post and asked for permission to post it to his site. I readily gave him permission and if you go to his website and scroll down to the latest stories, you will see The Fallout Shelter at the top of the list. He gave me a link back to Dudleys Diary. I guess Dudley is now a published author. How cool is that.

It Is Raining At The Dudley Domicile Today ...

Photobucket

which is good, we need all of the rain we can get, especially this time of year. Dudley was supposed to go to see his pulmonologist today but he called and left word that he would need to reschedule. Dudley is trying to hang on to what limited mobility he has for has long as he can. No sense in taking chances getting out and slipping on a wet sidewalk and falling and breaking a leg or a hip. Dudleys neurologist who is five years older fell and broke his hip last year. He has the same type of muscular dystrophy as Dudley and it really took a toll on his mobility and his health from what Dudley observed in the doctors office. Maybe Dudley is a big wimp but he would rather err on the side of caution and not take any unnecessary risks. Lizzie and her friend Melissa are out running around today, shopping and getting ready for school which starts a week from today. Frank got rained out today at the lawn service, first time all summer. I think we are going to watch a war movie in a little while, The Thin Red Line. Hopefully it will be a good movie, it has a bunch of big name actors in it. It ought to be good. It is supposed to rain tomorrow and the next day as well. We may watch a bunch of movies if this weather keeps up.

You Tube Finally Fixed The Feature Allowing One ...

to post a video to one's blog with just a single mouse click. This feature has been missing in action for the past several weeks. This of course did not stop Dudley from continuing to try to post videos to Dudleys Diary. Friday night Dudley was rewarded for all his hard work when twenty or so videos began posting to the blog one after another some in duplicate or triplicate which just confirms Dudley is persistent if not downright stupid. All is well now, Dudley deleted all of the offending videos except for the one showing the earthquake with the car driving off into a black hole in the ground. Dudley thought that one was pretty cool. Most of the videos Dudley had all ready posted to the blog via blogger. A little while ago, Dudley posted What Would Kimbo Do Two and it does appear You Tube has fixed the feature once and for all. That may be wishful thinking but Dudley can only hope.

Dudley Went Out And Took A Photo Yesterday Evening ...

of his offspring as they came wheeling into the court on the way home from the store. We had run out of the elixir of life around the Dudley domicile or as some may know it, Dr. Pepper. Frank washed the Jeep last weekend and unbeknownst to Dudley had taken the top off. Dudley got a little peeved last year when he went away to college and failed to put the top back on the Jeep. Dudley struggled and finally was able to get the job done on his own but it is painful coming to the realization that what once could be done in a matter of a few minutes can barely be done at all given ones physical limitations. When Dudley asked why he dared take the top off with out asking he responded a quote he learned from Dudley ... "It is easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission." Dudley was kind of glad to see the Jeep topless. Riding in the Jeep with the sky above is what Jeeps are all about. It is a feeling of freedom you just can not get in a closed in vehicle. After dinner, Frank drove Dudley to a Best Buy store to get some batteries for his camera. The store is not in the best part of town and Dudley did not want to sit out in the open Jeep while Frank went inside and made the purchase so Dudley took along his 9mm just in case. We made the trip without incident but it is nice to know one could defend ones self should the need arise. The batteries in Dudleys camera died after taking the above picture. I will try and post a photo of the new gun rack in the Jeep later today or tomorrow. Dudleys daughter went up to the high school and registered for classes yesterday. She is going to be a junior. I am sure she is thrilled to be starting classes in about a week and a half ... NOT!

Please pray for Meredith ...

she is a beautiful 21 year old girl and is fighting for her life. She is Dudleys aunts grand daughter. She is a student at a college in up state New York where her father teaches. She began to experience black outs from what I understand. After many tests, they diagnosed a brain aneurysm. She went in for surgery yesterday morning at a hospital in Vermont. The surgery did not go well. During the surgery, it became an emergency when she suffered massive hemmoraging and swelling of the brain. The neuro surgeon got the bleeding stopped. Meredith has been placed in a drug induced coma and the doctors say it will be one week before they will know her prospects for recovery. Meredith has fought such battles before and her strength of spirit is nothing short of amazing. When she was a young teenager, she was at home doing homework one night and was sitting at her desk. A candle was burning and she got up and reached across the desk and the candle ignited her t shirt which burst into flames. She jumped up and ran into the bathroom and turned on the shower and put the fire out but not before she suffered massive burns to her chest, arms and back. She spent weeks in Dallas at the Parkland Burn Center and underwent many skin graft surgeries and a long painful recovery. Through all of this Meredith never gave up. A few years later, Meredith was a passenger in a car and was in a terrible accident in the middle of the day. Meredith received multiple broken bones and again found her self in the hospital fighting to recover. She bounced back from the accident and continued on. Meredith is now fighting the biggest fight of her young life. Please pray for her recovery and for peace and strength for her family.

Hypnotist At The Senior Center, Got It From Cary ...

Claude the hypnotist exclaimed: 'I'm here to put you into a trance; I intend to hypnotize each and every member of the audience.'The excitement was almost electric as Claude withdrew a beautiful antique pocket watch from his coat. 'I want you each to keep your eye on this antique watch. It's a very special watch. It's been in my family for six generations' He began to swing the watch gently back and forth while quietly chanting, 'Watch the watch, watch the watch, and watch the watch...'The crowd became mesmerized as the watch swayed back and forth, light gleaming off its polished surface. Hundreds of pairs of eyes followed the swaying watch, until, suddenly, it slipped from the hypnotist's fingers and fell to the floor, breaking into a hundred pieces.'SHIT!' exclaimed the Hypnotist. It took three days to clean up the Senior Center.

Dudley And Daughter Went Out West One Day Last Week ...

to Weatherford, Texas. We went and ate lunch at a hamburger joint and then went to Gibson's Discount Center Where You Buy The Best For Less. Dudley enjoyed walking around the old store, it brought back a lot of old memories from his childhood. Funny thing is Dudley left the store with out buying a single thing. At one time, Gibson's was like the Walmart of today with a Gibson's store in many a town in Texas. Now, there are only a few left still in operation. For those that don't know, Weatherford is a historic Texas town with it's roots being a part of the old west on the frontier of the West Texas plains. Oliver Loving and Boze Ikard are buried in an old pioneer cemetery in Weatherford. If those names don't ring a bell, remember Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. His Pulitzer Prize winning novel was based on these real life characters. You can look into the past when you gaze upon the Parker County Courthouse or one of the many Victorian era houses still standing. There are old railroad depots, a farmers market and Weatherford claims to be the peach growing capital of Texas and the cutting horse capital of the world. Mary Martin is from Weatherford, she is the mother of Larry Hagman of J.R. Ewing fame. They had a big Fourth of July Celebration in 1869 in Weatherford and little Annie Rider was upset her mother would not let her go. If Annie was looking for excitement that day, she certainly got her wish when she stayed home in the little log cabin on Mary's Creek in eastern Parker County. You can read about it here. This same creek runs into Tarrant County by Dudleys domicile and then continues on to it's terminus with the Clear Fork of the Trinity River. Weatherford was the location of a tragedy during the waning days of WWII. You can read about it here. There is a lot of history in and around Weatherford.

No Gunrack On My Pickup In Heaven ...

this guy don't know what he is talking about. Would not be heaven with out shot guns. Preferably Parker double barrel side by side shotguns.

Frank Is Working This Afternoon To Install A ...

gun rack into our 1983 Jeep CJ-5. Dudley put one in the Jeep soon after he got it back in March of 1983 and used it for years to hold rifles and shotguns for hunting trips all over the Great State of Texas. Dudley used to have a tow bar on the front of the Jeep and would pull it behind Dudleys pick up on hunting trips. A lot of great memories involve the old Jeep and gun rack. The gun rack was really handy for trips to the shooting range as well. Dudley took the old gun rack out several years ago after he pretty much quit hunting after moving from East Texas to the big city. Dudley bought a replacement gun rack about a year ago and Frank put it together today and is out in the Jeep installing it as I type this. Frank is anxious to put his shot gun in the gun rack and go over and pick up one of his buddy's and go to the trap and skeet range which is located about five miles from Dudleys domicile. I know how he feels and if Dudley was 19 years old and still able, he would be doing the same thing.

The Internet Police May Come Knock On Dudleys Door ...

The other night, Dudley suspected something was up with his two teenagers. They had been spending a good deal of time playing around with Franks laptop computer. But what really tipped off Dudley was when they began to go into their rooms and speak in hushed tones about who knows what. Dudley finally called the juvenile delinquents into the den and asked them what the heck they were up to. At first they denied doing anything but after further inquisition, Dudley discovered that they had been using the laptop to borrow one of the neighbors wi-fi wireless Internet connection to access the Internet. Dudley did a Google search on the subject and apparently it is not against the law per se. Some how it does not seem quite right. Can anyone give me any advice about this. Should I put a stop to the practice or just let the kiddos have their fun. Your thoughts will be most appreciated.

Everything Was Upside Down On Dudleys Desktop ...

earlier. Dudeys daughter Lizzie was on the computer and decided to restart it because it was running a little slow. Sometimes this will cause the machine to run a little faster don't you know. Well she did so and than began to holler that everything was upside down. All of the Icons on the desktop were upside down, the start menu was upside down, the cursor arrow was upside down. She pulled up the Internet and it was Topsy Turvy. Dudley feared a dreaded computer virus so Dudley called his sister at work and asked her to Google a fix for me. She did not believe me and thought I was pulling a joke on her. I put Lizzie on the phone and she convinced her we indeed were looking at the Internet and standing on our heads and needed help. She found a fix that said to push the Alt+Control+ Arrow Key. Lizzie tried this and it did not work. Dudley then sat down at the computer and tried with the same results. She then said to try to right click the Desktop/Graphic Options/Rotation/Normal. Dudley did so and it worked like a charm. The screen went black for a second and then came back on and everything was right side up. Catastrophe averted and everything is back to normal at least for now around the Dudley Domicile. Thanks Big Sis!

Rangers Beat The Yankees Again ...

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Here Is Another Look At The Celebration ...

following last nights win by the Rangers over the Yankess 9 to 5. It was the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs when Marlon Byrd came to the plate. He is like O for 27 with men in scoring position. Dudley would have bet that the game was headed to extra innings. The Byrd Man swung at the first pitch drove it out into the right field seats. It was pandemonium in the ball park at that point. What a win for the Rangers over the Yankees no less. Dudley posted a video early this morning of the Grand Slam and then saw that You Tube had pulled it due to a claim by MLB of a copy write violation. There is more than one way to skin a cat. Dudley found another copy of the video off of the Texas Rangers site and downloaded it to his hard drive and re posted it to Dudleys Diary. Dudleys neighbor is a transplanted Yankee and Yankee fan. He was at the game last night. When he gets home from work, Dudley may have to meet him in the drive way and ask him what he thought about the game?

One Way To Beat The Heat ...

Damn It Is Hot Here At The Dudley Domicile Today ...

It is well over 100 degrees again today. Dudley sure is glad he borrowed the money last summer to replace the home HVAC system. It was expensive but Dudley does not want to experience going without AC again. I just hope the local power company can keep up with the demand. When it is this hot, Dudley stays inside. With my respiratory problems, I do better in the A.C. I feel sorry for Frank, he is out mowing another twenty plus yards today for the lawn service he works for. The forecast looks like the high Wednesday will only be 99. Dudley has some errands to run and they may have to wait until then. I need to go to the tax office and get the registration stickers for three of our vehicles, and go to the bank and the barber shop. There is another tropical storm down in the Gulf off of the Texas coast. There is a slight chance we could get some rain out of this system but it may fizzle out like Dolly who did not make it all the way up to North Central Texas. Dudleys daughter just left to go to work at the Pizza Parlor. Lizzie is losing out on a babysitting job for our neighbor tonight. Dudleys wife is going to keep their young daughter for them while they go to the Ranger game tonight. They are going to be rooting for the Yankees if you can believe that. I hope the Rangers win but we will see.

This Is A Photo Of Dudleys First Car ...

a 1976 Camaro. It was a great car. It was a base Camaro when Dudley got it in 1976. It had a 305 V8 with a 2 bbl carb and an automatic transmission. Dudley was working at a local department store while he was in high school and quickly began to customize his ride. He had a rear spoiler put on and had the center of the hood painted black and the rear panel below the spoiler. Dudley painted the grilles black and the headlight rims. He also had rally sport decals put on though the car was not a true rally sport from the factory. The car was silver with black vinyl interior. Dudley put in a Pioneer Super tuner AM/FM radio/cassette player and two Jensen speakers on the front console and two Jensen 6x9 speakers in the back. The car came with an AM/FM radio eight track player if you can believe that. Dudley tended to crank up the music pretty loud back in the day. Probably was listening to the Eagles, or Linda Ronstadt. This is the only picture I have of this car. If I remember correctly I took this photo for posterity about the time I traded it in on my 1979 Camaro Z-28 I got when I was in college. This car was beginning to show its age, a piece of the trim had fallen off of the front fender. All of the trim rings were long gone off of all four wheels. The front air dam was long gone but other than that, the car was still in pretty good shape. If I remember it only had about 60,000 miles on it when I traded it in. The Z-28 was also silver with black vinyl interior. It had a 35o 4 bbl carb with a four speed manual transmission. The Z-28 was pretty tame by true muscle car standards but that car handled like a formula one race car and Dudley had a blast driving it on the many hills and curves on the many farm roads in East Texas around Nacogdoches where Dudley went to college. I have some photos of the Z-28 in a frame somewhere. If I can ever find them, I will post a photo here on the blog of the best car Dudley ever owned and the one he longs for to this day.

Dudley Got The Email He Has Been Waiting For ...

to apply for the 2008 South West Arkansas Buckmasters Chapter Whitetail Deer Hunt in and around Foreman Arkansas. Dudley went last year and bagged a big doe. It was great being able to go deer hunting again. A lot of fine people volunteer their time effort and money to make this event a big success. Dudley hopes he gets drawn/selected to hunt again. This years hunt is shorter than last years which is a good thing. Last year Dudley was running on adrenalin getting ready for the hunt and for the first two or three days then Dudley crashed as he was completely worn out. By the end of the hunt, everyone was tired but it was a good tired. Pictured above is Mike Cranford chapter President with a huge trophy buck he took on the chapter lease during last years hunt.

Dudley Is Home Alone All Weekend ...

unless you count the dog and the cat, if so I have plenty of company. Everyone else has gone to East Texas to spend the weekend with the in laws. Dudley will probably enjoy the peace and quiet. If you had been here to watch and listen to the three ring circus that took place while Dudleys wife and son and daughter were trying to get ready to leave for the journey east, you would understand. They will be back soon enough as Dudleys daughter is scheduled to work Sunday evening at her new job at the Pizza Parlor. Tonight Dudley will watch the Texas Rangers take on the Toronto Blue Jays. The Rangers won last night in an exciting 9 th inning come from behind win. Go Rangers!
