Texas & New Orleans Depot In Frankston, TX ...

This is the best vintage photo of this depot Dudley has ever seen. Guessing it was taken in the 40's. You can see a 4 Wheel Cart used for loading snd unloading Boxcars. The Semaphore Signal and Pole is visable beside the depot. You can see the loading dock and ramp and the ticket window where the Station Agent could transact business. He would have had a desk in there with a Telegraph Key to send and receive messages up and down the line. It looks like a claw foot bathtub on the end of the loading dock. Wonder what the story was on that? The building in the background across the highway is the Tomato Packing/Loading Shed. Dudley wishes he had a dollar for every bushel basket of green tomatoes that moved through there back in the day. The last Passenger train run was in 1964. The Southern Pacific Freight Trains ran a while longer. Dudley started College in the Fall of 1977. Dudley would drive through Frankston on his way to Nacogdoches. Pretty sure there was an ocassional freight train on the line at that time. Dudley started dating his wife in 1980, Dudley started making trips on the weekends to Frankston to visit her parents and go to the Farm. By that time Dudley is pretty sure the line had been abandoned. About ten years after that, the rails and ties were all pulled up and sold for salvage. The City of Frankston cared enough to restore and preserve the depot for future generations. It is the Library.

This is the Texas & New Orleans Depot in Beaumont, TX. Sometime in the 1940's when Dudleys future father in law was a young single man, he saved up some money. He went to the Frankston Depot and bought a round trip ticket to Beaumont, TX. He rode on an old heavyweight passenger car pulled by a steam locomotive. He wanted to see the world outside a small sleepy East TX town. Dudley wishes he could have gone along on the trip. Would have gone through Jacksonville, down to Nacogdoches and down to Beaumont through some of the most beautiful Piney Woods you have ever seen. It would have been an adventure!

This is a Southern Pacific Steam Locomotive on a mixed freight/passenger run in 1952 from Dallas to Beaument, TX. This is likely the train my father in law rode back in the day.

This is the 1952 time table for the Dallas to Beaumont, TX run. There were a lot of small jerk water towns along the way!

Frank's Buddy Chace Bought A New Truck Today ...

He got a Toyota Tundra Crew Cab 4 WD pick up. He was wanting to get a Ford Raptor but did not want to be put on a waiting list to try to get one. I think he made a good choice. That is a Bad Ass looking truck. He took the picture in Benbrook in front of the monument built by an Eagle Scout to honor Vernon Castle. He was a famous dancer as was his wife. He was a pilot in WWI. He was flying a biplane at an airfield located in Benbrook when the biplane he was piloting and another plane crashed in mid air. Verrnon Castle died at this location almost 100 years ago.

Dudley Is A Camaro Guy But These Are A Couple Of Nice Firebirds ...

The red convertible is 000001 and the grey coupe is 000002, the first two firebirds to roll off the assembly line. They are going to go up for auction next month at Barrett Jackson in Las Vegas. They both had the same V8, the convertible had an automatic transmission and the coupe a 4 speed manual. Dudley would like to take the best of both cars. A red convertible with 4 on the floor, the wheels off of the coupe and that bad ass hood mounted tachometer should do it!

Neat Picture From The Early Days Of Possum Kingdom Lake ...

Dudley has a lot of memories of trips to Possum Kingdom back in the day. Never caught a mess of Catfish like that guy did. Trot-Line catch I would bet or maybe he called em up with an old crank telephone! Dudley and some friends were spending the weekend at a remote landlocked A Frame cabin back in HS. Dudley used his Terry Bass Boat to ferry all the gear and beer and his buddies to the cabin. It was pretty primative from what Dudley remembers. We were sitting outside around a campfire drinking cold Schlitz Beer and enjoying the late afternoon. Two rough looking old boys came into the cove where we were and shut off their oversized outboard on their undersized Jon Boat. Dudley watched as they pulled near the boat dock. The guy in the front of the boat threw a wire overboard and his buddy started turning a crank in a wooden box in the middle of the boat. Dudley walked down to the dock and asked them if they had shocked anything yet. The guy in the front said they had caught one little one.He then reached and pulled up on a rope by the boat and lifted up a 30 pound Flathead Catfish! Dudley asked him if they could outrun the Game Warden in their boat. The guy smiled and said he ain't caught us yet. We all laughed and they fired up their outboard and took off at a high rate of speed! Show offs :)

Jeffs Uncle went Dove hunting on a 6,500 acre ranch in Erath County ...

He took these pics of some bucks they had darted. They only allow friends and family to deer hunt. I wonder if they would adopt Dudley???
