Dudley Is Going To Buy A Gallon Of This Stuff ...
pretty soon. Frank called yesterday and said they went back and mowed the yard with the huge oak tree where he got all of the acorns from and said he examined the leaves and it is a Red Oak tree. That is a little disappointing as the White Oak acorns are less bitter and are preferred by deer and hogs. Some time before Thanksgiving, we will go by the feed store and get some feed grade molasses and pour it on top of the acorns we are going to put out upwind from his stand. We are going to do this three days before the start of the four day doe season. Frank is going to take his buddy out to the farm and be his hunting guide and try to help him bag his first deer. I think his chances should be pretty good with the cover crop, and the acorns and the corn feeders they have in place. Opening day of rifle season is just nine days away and Frank is almost ready to go try to kill a buck. He has to go check the deer rifle out and make sure the scope is still zeroed in. He probably will go do that on Tuesday morning. It is raining again here at the Dudley domicile. If this rain does not let up, Frank may have to forget deer hunting and put on some waders, grab his shotgun and go duck hunting!

Dudley's Wife Bought A New Refrigerator Last Night ...
at Lowe's. It is a 21.1 cubic foot model. With tax it cost $701.46 and we have twelve months to pay it off with no interest. She told them Home Depot was offering 12 months no interest charges on their appliances until October 30th and Lowe's agreed to match it. We have only been without a refrigerator here at the Dudley Domicile about 24 hours but you don't realize how dependant you are on having a way to keep food and drinks cold until you lose your refrigerator. Lowe's is going to be bringing it out between 8:00 and 10:00 AM. I wonder if anyone is going to put the last 12 years worth of magnets, photos, and notes on the new fridge. Might be a good time to thin those out. Dudley looked on Lowe's website and read the specs on this model and it said it was handicapped accessible. I wonder exactly what that means. It does not look like Dudley's power wheel chair will fit through the door!Tuesday, October 27, 2009
Our Old Refrigerator Quit Working Sometime ...
during the night. Dudley's wife said we bought it when Lizzie was going into the first grade. She is now a senior in high school. I guess it is time for a new one. Will let the wife go to Sears, Home Depot and Lowe's and find a replacement. Every time Dudley turns around something breaks here at the Dudley domicile. I guess Dudley should quit turning around so much. Dudley did get some good news yesterday, when his doctors office called with the news that the MRI/MRA of Dudley's brain was normal. At least Dudley does not have to worry about having a brain aneurysm or brain tumor any longer. Still don't know for sure why my left eye is acting up though. Got to go, the dog is scratching at the back door and Dudley needs to go take a shower.

Dudley And Frank Made Another Big Score ...
yesterday evening right after the Cowboy game. Frank told Dudley while we were watching the game that one of the yards that he mowed Friday had a huge oak tree and that the ground was covered with acorns. The homeowner wanted them all picked up so Franks boss used a blower and blew all of the acorns into piles that they picked up and put into large paper bags. Dudley asked Frank whey he did not put them into the truck at that time and he said they were in too big of a hurry. We went over there right before dark and were glad to find the two bags full of acorns sitting by the curb. Frank loaded them into his truck and we went home and he poured them into a 120 quart ice chest and was able to fill it to the top. Dudley thinks these are White Oak acorns but is not for sure. Frank is going to spread these out upwind from his stand. He should be able to get a bunch more acorns from the same house the next time they mow. The tree these acorns fell from was huge. Maybe he can fill up another 120 quart ice chest. If Frank waits until late in the deer season and puts a bunch out, it could work like a magnet to draw in the deer and the hogs. Dudley Scored A Great Find On eBay Yesterday Evening ...
Dudley has had a pair of Red Ball Rubber Boots since the early 80's. He bought them when he was working as an Insurance Adjuster and used to carry them in the trunk of his company car so he could put them on in a moments notice whenever he encountered wet/muddy conditions. Dudley also wore them for years on numerous hunting and fishing expeditions. They also came in handy every year when Dudley and his father in law planted cover crops every fall for the deer hunting season. The last ten years or so Frank has pretty much taken over Dudleys Red Ball boots as he has found them to be just as useful for his hunting and fishing and farming pursuits. Dudley wears a size 10 and Frank a size 11 so they fit a little snug. The Red Ball company went out of business sometime during the 1990's. Dudley was on eBay yesterday and remembered to look to see if he could find any Red Ball boots for sale. Lo and behold Dudley found a store that had two pairs NIB with tags, one a size 9 and the other a size 11. Dudley called Frank and told him he had found a new pair of the prized Red Ball boots in size 11 and asked if he wanted them. He said hell yeah so Dudley made the purchase. Dudley and wife owed Frank around thirty dollars for cleaning the outside of the house last weekend and that is just about what the boots cost with shipping. These boots are just a little taller than Dudleys and have a strap at the top for cinching up the boot to keep water from getting in. They have the famous Red Ball logo just like Dudleys. These boots are perfect for Dudley and son, as the tag reads , they are for Hunting, Fishing, Farming and more!

The Buckhorn Saloon And Museum ...
If You Ever Go To San Antonio You Need To Visit ...
The Buckhorn Saloon & Museum and the famous Hall Of Horns. The history of the original Buckhorn Saloon is amazing. Teddy Roosevelt was a regular there and recruited his "Rough Riders" from within and Pancho Villa is rumored to have planned the Mexican Revolution on a visit there. The Saloon was opened in 1881 and was operated for years by Albert Friedrich who collected the most complete array of horns and antlers on display anywhere in the world. The top photo is of the former World Record non typical Whitetail buck killed in 1892 on the historic Ford Ranch near Brady, TX. This buck had 78 scorable points and is an amazing animal. The Ford Ranch spreads over fifty square miles of the Texas Hill Country on 32,000 acres of rolling prime deer habitat. Between 1990 and 1994, Dudley made four hunting trips to this hallowed hunting ground. Dudley killed four trophy bucks on the Ford but nothing close to the 78 point Benson Buck. The Buckhorn Saloon was in operation from 1881 through WWI and WWII and continued well past the second world war. In 1956 the Lone Star Brewery purchased the massive antler and horn collection and opened the Lone Star Buckhorn Hall of Horns. Dudley and wife made a visit there during the 1980's and were amazed at the massive collection of horns and antlers and fish and birds and other wildlife. Dudley remembers seeing a lot of the memorabilia from The Fabulous Topperweins many years of traveling the country doing shooting shows for Winchester. Dudley asked his father in law if he had ever heard of them and he said when he was a small boy in East TX, he watched them put on a shooting exhibition near his hometown. The Lone Star Brewery closed its doors in 1998 and the collection was moved to a new home in downtown San Antonio just a few blocks from the location of the original Buckhorn Saloon. Dudley and wife took the kids to the new Buckhorn Saloon and Museum years ago when they were little. We had a great time and it was even more fun the second time around watching the kids reactions to such an awe inspiring display.

A young cowboy sitting in a saloon one Saturday night recognized an elderly man standing at the bar who, in his day, had been the fastest gun in the West.
The cowboy took a place next to the old-timer, bought him a drink and told him of his great ambition to be a great shot...
' Could you give me some tips?' he asked.
The old man said, 'Well, for one thing, you're wearing your gun too high - tie the holster a little lower down on your leg.'

The young man did as he was told, stood up, whipped out his .44 and shot the bow tie off the piano player.
'That's terrific!' said the cowboy . 'Got any more tips ?'
'Yep,' said the old man. 'Cut a notch out of your holster where the hammer hits it - that'll give you a smoother draw'
'Will that make me a better gunfighter?' asked the young man.
'You bet it will,' said the old-timer.
The young man took out his knife, cut the notch, stood up, drew his gun in a blur, and then shot a cufflink off the piano player.
'Wow!' exclaimed the cowboy 'I'm learnin' somethin' here. Got any more tips?'
The old man pointed to a large can in a corner of the saloon. 'See that axle grease over there? Coat your gun with it.'
The young man smeared some of the grease on the barrel of his gun.
'No,' said the old-timer, 'I mean smear it all over the gun, handle and all.'
'Will that make me a better gunfighter?' asked the young man.
'No,' said the old-timer, 'but when Wyatt Earp gets done playing the piano, he's gonna shove that gun up your ----, and it won't hurt as much.

Dudley Went And Got An MRI Done Of His Brain ...
yesterday evening. Dudley went to his neurologist for a check up recently and the doctor held a little wand up and said to follow with the eyes as he moved it back and forth. Dudley did so and noticed the doctor frowned. He asked Dudley if he has been experiencing any double vision and I said no but have noticed some blurred vision a few times. He said one of my eyes is not tracking with the other like they should. He said this could be caused by the Muscular Dystrophy or a thyroid condition, or a brain aneurysm or brain tumor. He sent Dudley for the MRI to see what the cause may be. This is the first time the doctor has ever noticed anything out of the ordinary. Dudley has a problem with chronic sinus infections and has an idea this condition may be related to that. Went to an allergist a few weeks ago and had a CT scan done and some blood work. Hopefully Dudley will get some answers in about 30 days when he has a followup appointment with the neurologist. Hopefully they can rule out the aneurysm or brain tumor scenario. Will have to just wait and see what the doctor says. It has been a dreary day here at the Dudley domicile. It has been raining most of the day and probably will on through the night. There is a cold front moving in from the west. Frank got rained out from his lawn mowing job so Dudley got to spend the day with him for a change. He was able to go pick up Lizzie when she got out of school which saved Dudley from having to get out in the rain. Hopefully the rain will clear out by tomorrow and we will get some cooler fall weather. The leaves are starting to change colors and fall from the trees. Dudley is going to try and drive out to the lake one day next week and enjoy the changing season. Maybe get some photos for Dudley's Diary.Tuesday, October 20, 2009
Lizzie Rescued A Neighbors Dog Today ...
she saw him running outside and went out and called him to her. He came right up and she petted him and looked at the dog tag attached to his collar. She called the number on the tag and got the man who was at his office. He gave Lizzie his home number and she called and spoke to the wife. She said her husband must have left the gate open. They lived not far away on the next street over so she leashed up "Bongo" and walked him back home. The lady met her halfway and thanked Lizzie for calling as she had no idea Bongo had escaped. Bongo is now safely back to his home and Lizzie has done a good deed for the day. Way to go Lizzie and Bongo.

There Is Going To Be Some Excitement Saturday Evening ...
down at the Fort Worth Stockyards. A bunch of Dallas Queers are going to be staging a Queer Kiss In from 5:00 to 6:00 PM across from Risky's BBQ. Dudley has an idea these Dallas Queers may be in for a surprise when they try this stunt in Cowtown. Dudley was raised with the belief that people should be respectful of the rights of others, sort of a live and let live mentality. Dudley does not approve or think it is a good idea for a bunch of openly queer people to act like such idiots in public. It shows that they have no concern for the rights of others and only care about their own perverted self interests. They need to keep it behind closed doors like decent folks do. The Fort Worth Stockyards are a popular tourist destination for people from all parts of the world. Many families from out of town visit there each day and a lot of the visitors are small children. Dudley does not think they should be exposed to such a queer public display. Dudley has an idea that a lot of local people feel likewise and may just show up to protest the protesters. Dudley hopes the Fort Worth Police are prepared for the event. If one of those queers gets out of line and grabs a true Texas Cowboy by the crotch like happened at the Rainbow Lounge recently, things could get real ugly real fast. Those queers may end up wishing they had stayed in Dallas where they belong.

Dudley Has Spent A Few Hours On The Phone ...
yesterday afternoon and today trying to run down a Seasonal Flu Shot. Dudley got a voucher in the mail the other day for a free flu shot at Walgreen's but Dudley called five or more of their stores as far away as 25 miles and every one is out of the vaccine. Dudley called his neurologist's office and they are not doing flu shots this year. He called his primary care doctor and they also are not offering any flu shots this year. After several more calls, Dudley finally found a place where he can get the shot tomorrow morning but Dudley will have to be there at 8:00 AM when the doors open. Once that is done, Dudley can then wait for three weeks and then decide if he is going to get the H1N1 vaccine for the Swine Flu. Dudley will probably get that shot as well because Dudley knows if he contracts the Swine flu it will probably be Audios Amigos. Dudley's wife works at a large Regional Children's Hospital and she is at risk for getting the disease even though she works in an office in a supporting role and is not directly involved in providing health care. At times like this, Dudley wishes he had a remote cabin up on the top of a mountain somewhere with a good supply of food and water so he could get away from people and try to avoid getting sick. Frank Made It Back From His Trip To East Texas ...
he drove through rain most of the way home. He said he and his Grandpa got the oats planted on the R.E.A. right of way. That is a photo of his grandfather driving the tractor, he is 82 years of age and still going strong. We almost lost him to cancer back in the early nineties but prayers were answered and he is with us still and one of his greatest joys is spending time with his grandson. They put out 50 pounds of seed oats and 250 pounds of fertilizer. The moisture content of the soil is good due to recent rains and it has rained since they finished running the disc and covering up the seeds and fertilizer. It is going to warm up later in the week so the seeds should start to sprout before long. After they finished with the planting, they filled up the gravity feeders with shelled corn. His grandpa is going to clean out his deer stand next week and put out a couple of jars of peanut butter. Deer Season is less than four weeks away. Maybe Frank will get that big buck he has been dreaming about on opening day!
