Dudley And Wife Went On A Road Trip To West Texas Saturday ...

We went to Cisco, TX and ate CFS at Linda's Corner Cafe then looked around Cisco, the site of the infamous Santa Clause Bank Robbery. Saw the Mobley Hotel which was purchased by Conrad Hilton and was the start of the Hilton Hotel Empire. Dudley drove his Dodge Ram down a beautiful stretch of the original Bankhead Highway. It was built in the early 20's and was the first all weather road from the east to the west coast. It ran from Washington DC to San Diego CA and was called the Broadway of America. The section in Cisco was paved with red "Thurber" Bricks and is in amazing condition for being almost a Century old!     We went to Eastland and saw the the old jail where an angry mob went in by force one night and removed Santa Clause from his cell and took him out behind the Majestic Theater and hung him from a Telegraph Pole. Dudley was dissapointed to see the granite monument marking the spot of the last Mob Lynching in the State of Texas was no longer present. After leaving Eastland we went to Ranger, TX saw the restored Depot and went by and saw the remains of the Lone Star Chicken Inn and Tourist Court. It was an amazing day exploring a historic part of the great State of Texas.
