Frank Went To East Texas Last Weekend ...

to see one of his old high school buddies who is going to college at SFA in Nacogdoches. That is the university that Dudley and wife graduated from back in 1981. Dudley has not been back there in over twenty years. Probably would not recognize the campus or the town in 2009. No doubt everything has changed. On the way home, Frank stopped off to eat lunch with his grandparents and then stopped off at the farm to do a little scouting and to put out some more corn for the deer and wild hogs to eat. The oat patch he planted is looking pretty good and he said he saw a lot of tracks in and around the area. His deer stand is all cleaned out and ready to go for opening morning. Frank is out at the local gun range as I type this doing a final check on our deer rifle to make sure it is still sighted in. Frank will be leaving Friday going back to his grandparents so he can get up early Saturday morning and try to get a big buck. It will have to be a pretty good buck for him to get a shot this year. The State has imposed Antler Restrictions for the first time ever. For a buck to be legal, it has to have at least a 13 inch inside spread. Spike bucks are also legal. The hunting may be harder for two or three years but hopefully it will pay off with more older age class bucks to hunt in the future. At least that is the plan but with all of the road hunters and spotlight hunters in East Texas, it may not make much difference.
