The Westchester Apt High Rise Building Was Imploded Sunday Morning ...

It was built in 1951 in an area known  at one time as Quality Hill. The two Victorian Mansions in the pics above were torn down to build the Modern Apartment Building that was Air Conditioned and had Elevators and 24 hour Maid Service. The first floor was retail shops, a restaurant and a nightclub. After Dudleys Maternal Grandfather died in 1954, Dudleys Grandmother and his Great Aunt  moved into a two bedroom apt at the Westchester. Dudley remembers going there to visit when he was real little. Dudleys Grandmother got remarried and she and her second husband bought a new house on the east side. Dudleys Great Aunt lived at the Weschester for about three more years. Dudley remembers going to the Westchester when Sister moved out to go live with Dudleys Grandmother after Charlie passed away. He was Dudleys Grandmothers second husband. Dudley remembers Charlie. He was good to Dudley and he worked for the Post Office like Dudleys Grandfather. The coolest think about Charlie though was that he was an East TX product. He was born and raised in Henderson County just to the west down the T&NO rail line from the small town where Dudleys wife grew up. Charlie no doubt grew up hunting and fishing in the same general area where Dudley spent many of the greatest times of his life, in the Piney Woods of East TX!

So much Fort Worth history has been lost and they call it Progress!
