Bought Some Saltwater Flies For Frank To Take To The Texas Coast ...

when he and Jeff go down to the Land Cut. I bought 3 Crab flies 5 Shrimp flies and 1 Saltwater Popper from two different fly tyers that sell their flies on EBay.  The neat thing is they both live in Tyler TX. Dudley and his wife and kids lived in Tyler years ago. I hope Frank and Jeff catch a bunch of Speckled Trout this year. Hopefully Frank can fish with his fly rod if it is not too windy.

Going To Turn In The Rental Truck Tomorrow ...

I hope my truck will be ready soon. I enjoyed driving the Bighorn Edition with the HEMI and power windows and locks and satellite radio and Bluetooth but I am ready to get my truck back.  The Bodyshop has been working on it for 9 days so far to repair all of the hail damage from our trip to Alpine/Big Bend.

Bought A Press Photo On EBay ...

of Mrs JD Jernigin, Mrs Frank Hawks and My Great Uncle and his wife's daughter Mary Gloria Jernigin. Photo was taken in the spring of 1930 as Frank Hawks was landing the Texaco Eaglet in New York! I found on Find A Grave that Mary Gloria died in 2012 in Florida.

Had A Bad Storm Early This Morning ...

woke up to the sound of a large tree limb hitting the house outside my bedroom. Frank looked out the front window and saw the across the Court neighbors large tree had broken off above the ground and was blocking the street. Dudley called and reported it to the dispatcher at the PD. The Fire Dept sent a ladder truck out and they cleared the street. Two of Dudley's neighbors think it was a small tornado. It may have been it knocked out one neighbors powerline and the roof is missing from his storage building and has not been seen since before the storm.

Frank Put Up His Archery Range This Evening ...

after it finally stopped raining. Jeff came by to help secure the back stop to the posts. The only thing left to do is install the caps on top of the posts. Frank shot his bow from the back porch and had no trouble hitting the center of the target at 20 yards.

Saw This Picture Of Dudley's Grandfather In Laws Brand New 1956 Chevy Pick Up ...

Photos From Frank And Dudley's' Big Bend Adventure ...

On the way Friday we stopped at Perinis Steak House in Buffalo Gap TX and ate some fried Quail Legs and a Grilled Tenderloin for lunch. Saw a Giant Armadillo in the parking lot ...
We drove to Monahans TX and listened to some Guy Clark songs, "Texas 1947" and "Randall Knife" and "Desperados Waiting For A Train" then drove to Pecos TX and checked out the restored depot and caboose ...
We then drove to Alpine and checked into our motel ...
Saturday morning we drove south to the old mining town of Terlingua TX home of the World Famous Carroll Shelby Chili Cook Off and drove west on the "River Road" along the Rio Grande and the border with Mexico. The scenery was spectacular ...
After going about 60 miles we reached the border town of Presideo, TX. We then drove north to Marfa, TX. We had a close call with a State Trooper who caught the guy up ahead bird dogging for us! We then stopped at a Border Checkpoint, a first for Dudley...
We drove west from Marfa towards Valentine TX to Prada Marfa. Took a photo of Dudley with the Prada Store in the background and the best part is Dudley caught a Union Pacific Freight rolling by just across from the store and got some great photos ...
We then went back to Marfa and on into Alpine after driving through a few Liquor Stores to stock up. Dudley is not a big drinker. These two bottles of Four Roses and Maker's Mark Bourbon and a bottle of Scorpion Mezcal will last for years ...
Saturday evening we went back to the motel and rested, then Frank left to go to Reata Steak House to make a reservation for dinner. He was on the way when a storm hit and it started to hail golf ball sized hail and bigger. Frank pulled off the highway into a gas station and stopped under a canopy. The wind was gusting up to 80 mph and the hail was coming under the canopy and hitting Dudley's truck. Back at the motel, Dudley watched out the window in awe at the worst hail storm he had seen in over 45 years. The window in Dudley's room got shattered...
All of the vehicles in the motel parking lot had their windshields broken, luckily Dudley's glass was undamaged. We had a late dinner at Reatta of Fried Calf Fries and a Tenderloin Steak and a Lone Star Beer ...
After dinner we drove back towards Marfa to the viewing area and we actually saw the "Marfa Lights" ...
While in Alpine we went and checked out Kokernot Field. It was built in 1947 by a local Rancher. Texas Monthly called it the Yankee Stadium of Texas ...
Sunday morning we checked out of the motel and headed home via the Southern Route through San Angelo and Brownwood. Went through Underwood's Drive Thru to get Big Sis some Cherry Cobbler ...
Here is a photo of a park in Alpine ...
And a few pics of West Texas ...
And Thanks to Frank who did all of the driving ...
