McLane Family Farmhouse In East Texas ...

in the shadow of Kickapoo Mountain. That is Dudley's late father in law second from the right.  He and his three brothers and two sisters were raised on the family farm. His father was a carpenter and built this house I would guess back in the late 1920's or early 1930's. Things were pretty primitive as the house did not have indoor plumbing or electricity back in those days. They had a wood stove for heat and no air conditioning!  They used Kerosene Lanterns for light. It was a tough life compared to today's standards, but they survived and thrived. The photo of the house was taken around 1956. The kids all grew up and went out and started families of their own. The parents moved to town and the farm house sat vacant for a decade or two and finally was torn down and the lumber salvaged to build another farm house in the same location. And time marches on.

Bought A Hot Wheels Poster On eBay Today ...

It shows all sixteen of the Redline cars from 1967. Dudley had three or four of those original cars.  Should have kept them in the package, they would be worth a small fortune today. Dudley is going to frame the poster in an orange frame with a purple matt to look like the track and connectors back in the day.

Dudley Had A Lot Of Fun With Hot Wheels Growing Up ...

I started out with a Strip Action Set and a few Redline Cars and then got a second Strip Action Set then a Drag Strip Action Set for real side by side racing with a start and finish gate. I had a Rally Case and got a Super-Charger Race Set with high banked 180 degree curves and a lap counter. Had a blast playing with Hot Wheels growing up. After I was Grown and my own kids were too big for Hot Wheels, they reissued many of the sets Dudley remembered from his childhood. Dudley has purchased most of the sets and put them up for his Grandkids to play with some day if he has any.

Dudley Is Finally Going To Join The 21st Century ...

and purchase a new state of the art Home Theatre system.  Dudley has been getting by for years with old antiquated small screen TVs, it is time for something bigger and better!  Frank and Dudley are going to go to the store to view and compare the different TVs available. Dudley wants to get the best value and is pretty sure he is going to go with a Vizio M Series 60" LED TV. He is going to also get a Vizio 5.1 Surround Sound 42" Soundbar with a Subwoofer and two Satellite Speakers.  Dudley is going to also purchase a Sony Blu-Ray Player and a Phillips DVD/VHS Player so he can watch all of his old Deer Hunting Movies.
Dudley is going to have a Cabinet Maker reconfigure Dudley's built in book shelves to make a space for the TV. Dudley's HS buddy is going to install everything once the Cabinet work is complete. Hoping to get this done by Opening Day of Baseball Season.  Dudley spends 99% of his time at home so he might as well have a Kick Ass Home Theatre to enjoy :)

Frank Got A New Jerky Gun And Made ...

about 10 lbs of venison and wild hog snack sticks. He had to make a quick trip to Bass Pro Shops this morning to get a longer stuffer tube to put the casing on. The tube that came with the gun would not work. Looking forward to eating these. We had twenty pounds of these made after our hunting trip but they did not last long. These probably won't either.

Another Christmas To Remember ...

circa 1963. Dudley got a Telescope, a GI Joe with a Frogman set and an Airforce Dress Uniform, a GI Joe Panther Jet, a Super Helmet Seven and a Black Rifle!

Dudley And Big Sis At Christmas Around 1962 ...

I got a Marx Tin Litho Service Station with an Operating Rooftop Car Wash, a Buddy L Texaco Firetruck with a working Water Canon and a Machine Gun. What more could a guy want!

A Letter Dudley Wrote To Help The MDA Raise Much Needed Funds ...

Dear Shamrock Campaign Supporter,

My name is John D. Poulsen and I have been living with a Progressive Neuromuscular Disease for 54 years. Growing up, I always had trouble keeping up but I didn’t let that stop me from following my dreams. I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University, got married and have two great kids. Frank is 24 and Lizzie is 21. I worked hard and played hard until age 40 when I suffered from a

Diaphragmatic Hernia. I had to have emergency surgery and a few days post-operation, I went into respiratory failure and had to be put on a ventilator. It was a tough battle, but I kept going: I had a lot to live for!

At 41 years of age, I was diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy and began my association with MDA. The hardest thing for me living with Muscular Dystrophy has been not being able to pursue my hobbies due to physical limitations. I used to love all kinds of fishing and hunting and spending time in the great outdoors! I still hope that one day I will be able to go deer hunting in South Texas and get a monster Whitetail Buck! I miss riding motorcycles, four wheeling in my jeep and riding a tractor or a horse.

I have regular check-ups with Dr. Robert McMichael, the Director of the local MDA clinic in Mansfield, TX, who recognized that I was suffering from severe Sleep Apnea. He worked hard to get me the machines that keep me breathing and keep me alive!

MDA really is making a positive difference in the lives of the patients they serve and their families. They have helped me to acquire a power wheelchair and to replace the batteries when needed. I have been blessed to have been able to live an active life for a good number of years and I know there are young children who have more severe forms of Muscular Dystrophy who don’t have that opportunity.

My family and I would like to extend our heart felt thanks and appreciation for your efforts to raise funds in support of the MDA. It really makes a difference as we tackle the day-to-day challenges of living with Muscular Dystrophy. I pray that someday a cure will be found for this disease.

Thanks so much!

John D. Poulsen

There Was A 2.3 Magnitude Earthquake Fairly Close ...

to the Dudley Domicile. It was centered just east of Lake Benbrook and happened around 1:30 AM. Dudley slept through it. With all the Gas Wells being drilled and the Fracturing of the Barnett Shale around here, Dudley will probably get another chance to experience an Earthquake.
