Dudley Has Felt Like This Horses Ass ...

all weekend. Have not felt like doing much of anything. Frank has been busy around the house, he mowed the yard today. Yesterday he put the top on the Jeep and put a new air filter and new windshield wipers on his mothers van. Last night Dudley's wife commented that she has a new battery, air filter, tires, and windshield wiper blades so it is time to go somewhere. Dudley could not help but comment that she had better drive that van to work so she could earn some money to help pay for all of that. Later today, Frank is going to put new batteries in both of our smoke detectors. Dudley used to take care of these types of chores but his Muscular Dystrophy has progressed to the point it is no longer possible to do such simple tasks. Good thing Frank is around to help out. Frank is going to get to spend a three day weekend next week down at the legendary Landcut on the Texas Coast. Last June he got to go fishing down there for a short overnight trip and estimated he caught over 200 Speckled Sea Trout during that short time period. The best thing about that trip was the majority of the trout and his largest twenty inch specimen were all caught on Dudley's old fly rod and reel. Frank said it was a blast catching them on that long limber rod. The trout should be a lot bigger this time around and probably more numerous. Maybe he will get lucky this time around and catch a Redfish or two. Dudley would give anything to be able to go with them but he will have to be content to listening to the fish stories and looking at Frank's photos of the trip. Dudley is going to go watch some NFL football and the Rangers are playing this afternoon. There is going to be a really good game tonight between the Colts and the Cardinals. Dudley is going to have to wait until Monday night to see the Cowboys play.

The Dallas Cowboys Need To Work On Their Proceedures ...

for getting fans into the stadium safely. Frank said when he and his buddy got to the stadium, they stood in line outside one of the end zones. Apparently that is the entrance those with Party Passes are required to use. Frank said the fans with tickets to seats in the stadium had been entering gates at the sides of the stadium for some time but those with the Party Passes were left standing outside the closed gates/doors. Finally they opened the doors and thousands of fans started a mad rush inside. Frank said he was caught up in a moving mass of people and as he approached the entrance, he saw a uniformed Arlington Police officer just a few feet away holding a taser out in front of him and Frank said you could see the electricity arching and hear the gun making a loud popping noise. Frank said he saw the gun aimed at him and he threw his arms up in the air and he said the officer motioned him to go on inside. I guess he was prepared to tase anyone he thought was getting out of line. Frank saw a news report a few days after the game and saw a stadium spokeswoman responding to the many complaints. She said she had heard of people saying they were in fear of being tasered but that she had not been able to confirm any of the reports. Frank said he could damn sure confirm this for her if she would give him a call. After a certain number of people that had Party Passes got in the stadium, the fire marshal said they had reached the limit and they refused to allow any more people inside even if they had purchased one of the Party Passes. Jerry Jones needs to re evaluate the number of Party Passes being sold. It is not right to sell more tickets than the fire code will allow in the stadium at one time. There were several persons arrested for unruly behavior according to the local media. Dudley has heard from one source that the stadium has it's own jail/holding cell on site. At any rate, they need to get this resolved before the next home game Monday Night. If they don't someone is going to get injured or killed needlessly.

Former UFC Champion Chuck Liddell Is Dancing With The Stars ...

Dudley will have to try an watch the next time the show comes on. Dudley watched when Emmit Smith and Mark Cuban were competing. Dudley is a big fan of the UFC and MMA in general. When Dudley was growing up he was always a big fan of boxing. Dudley watched many of the epic bouts of boxing's elite back in the glory days. Now Dudley does not even recognize who any of the fighters are. I guess boxing is just not being promoted any more like it once was. Dudley remembers the "Thrilla in Manila" and "Rumble in the Jungle" as two of the best fights of all time. Dudley does not follow boxing any more. Now Dudley is a fan of The Ultimate Fighting Championship and mixed martial arts. Dudley watched UFC 103 Saturday night on Pay Per View. There were some good fights. It was being held in Dallas at the American Airlines Center. Dudley would have liked to have been there to see it live but since Dudley could not afford to get seats up close, it is better to watch it on television. Chuck Liddell "The Iceman" is one of Dudley's favorite fighters. I think he is about ready to retire and Dudley wishes him well on Dancing With The Stars. And if he is voted off, he can always grab one of the male judges and kick his ass. That would be something Dudley would certainly like to see.

The Cowboys Lost But Frank Had A Good Time At Jerry World Yesterday ...

The Space Shuttle Discovery Made A Stop Yesterday Afternoon ...

at the JRB/NAS Joint Reserve Base/Naval Air Station near where Dudley lives. I think it landed at Edwards AFB and was getting a piggy back ride back to the Kennedy Space Center on a NASA modified Boeing 747. It stayed long enough to refuel and give the crew a rest and i believe they continued on to Shreveport LA and spent the night. The Space Shuttle is probably back in it's hanger back home by now. The shuttle comes through town every so often, one of these days Dudley hopes to see it coming in for a landing. That would be pretty cool. Dudley has always been a big fan of the Space Program. Dudley grew up with Apollo and was ten years old when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon in 1969. Dudley has always been in awe of such things, which is the way it should be. Dudley would not have it any other way.

Today Is A Big Day For Watching Sports Around The Dudley Domicile ...

Dudley has been watching the Texas Rangers take on the Angels. The Rangers are down 10 to 5 and it is the bottom of the 9th as I type this. A loss today will just about do away with any hope of the Rangers making the playoffs for the first time in ten years. With Josh Hamilton and Michael Young both hurt and unable to play down the final stretch, the Rangers just were not able to quite get it done. Looking on the bright side, the pitching staff looked better than it has in years, the defensive play has been solid and the Rangers have a lot of young players so the future looks bright. Dudley would like to see the Rangers make it to the World Series some day. Who knows if that wish will be granted. Dudley's wife and daughter went to the game last night and were rewarded with a Rangers victory. Glad they did not go to today's game. Frank just left to go pick up one of his buddies. They are en route to the new Cowboys stadium as they have tickets to the first ever regular season home game. I do not know if they will be able to see the field or not as they purchased standing room only tickets. It was all they could afford. Jerry Jones has just about priced the common man out of going to the ball game. They may have to be content with standing in the outer concourse and watching on a big screen t.v. They both are young and strong as a couple of bulls, they both played high school football together on the offensive line. If there is any way to push their way to the front of the crowd to the limited standing room only positions with a view of the actual field, they no doubt will find a way to do it. He will always be able to say he was at the first home game in the new stadium if he lives to be one hundred years old. Dudley on the other hand will be quite content sitting in his recliner watching the game on television.

Another Of Dudley's Prized Posessions ...

is this gold lizard inherited from his grandfather. After completing his graduate work in geology at Stanford University, Dudley's grandfather went to work for the Pure Oil Company of Houston, TX. This was sometime soon after the end of WWI. He spent several years exploring for oil down in Central America until the early to mid 1920's when he moved to Texas and began exploring for oil all over Texas as well as all over North America during WWII. "Gran" gave me this gold lizard a year or two before he passed away. His mind was sharp as polished steel up until the day he died in 1988 at the age of 95. He was totally bedridden his final years having had a leg amputated due to a blood clot and loss of circulation. It was hard on a man that played golf and remained active well into his 80's. He was called "Pancho" by his colleagues and was known for walking miles in a days time over rough terrain as he practiced geology the "old school" way on foot. Younger geologists less than half his age had a hard time keeping up with him. When he gave me the talisman (A talisman is a small amulet or other object, often bearing magical symbols, worn for protection against evil spirits or the supernatural) he related the story of how he had acquired it. He told me he had been working in the jungle down in Central America and had purchased it from a local villager who worked part time as a grave robber. He bought the gold lizard from him and tucked it safely away in the bottom of his duffel bag. He recounted that sometime later, he was traveling on a steam ship on one of the area rivers. He had stowed his gear below decks and said it was too hot to sleep down there. He had taken a cot and set it up on the deck of the ship in a spot open to the breeze. He was sleeping soundly during the middle of the night. The steam ship was going full steam ahead when suddenly and without warning it ran aground on a sand bar. Gran said he was thrown forward to the deck of the ship and remembered stacks of cargo crashing down around him. In the chaos that followed, he said all he could think about was making his way below decks to retrieve his gold lizard! Sometime later, he and the lizard made a safe return back to Texas. A few years later, he was working in Greenville TX and was walking down the street early one morning. He became ill and a young lady sitting on a porch swing of her parents front porch went out to offer help. She helped him onto the porch and they sat and talked for a time. They got married sometime later and raised two sons and were married for over 50 years until my grandmother's passing. The first two photos are of the gold lizard my grandfather brought back so many years ago. The photo below that shows a pre Colombian cast gold lizard in the National Museum of Costa Rica. Being gold, the lizard no doubt has value but Dudley would never sell it, to him it is priceless.

This Is Dudley's Favorite Painting ...

It is entitled "After The Hunt" and was painted by Arthur William Woelfle. (1873-1936) That is him in the lower photo wearing the knee high socks and what appears to be a skirt. That is his wife seated to his side. The painting was used by the Four Roses Whiskey Company in the early 1900's. Original metal lithographs of this painting go for around one thousand dollars at auction. Dudley bought a small tin sign copy of the painting years ago. After moving several times it got damaged and Dudley threw it out thinking he would be able to buy a replacement. No such luck, Dudley has searched high and low on the Internet and they are not reproducing this for the retro tin sign market any longer. The painting shows a nice eight point whitetail buck, some ruffled grouse, mallard ducks, a red fox . There is an old Winchester lever action carbine hanging on the wall of a log cabin and an old Parker SxS double barrel shot gun leaning against the wall. There is a deck of cards, smoking pipe , shot glass and last but not least a bottle of Four Roses Whiskey. To Dudley, that scene is a glimpse into what the Indians used to call the "Happy Hunting Grounds" which is where Dudley hopes to go when his work here is done. That scene just tells half the story, as there will be a lot of fishing, wooden boats and vintage outboard motors, bamboo fly rods and the like. Perhaps Dudley will take up painting one of these days.

Looks Like Someone Left The Door Unlocked At The Asylum ...

Check out the website for the Calvary Nudist Baptist Church located in the heart of the Bible Belt in Tyler, TX. Dudley lived in Tyler for five years back in the 90's and worked there for ten years. Tyler was your typical conservative East TX town back then. Sure they had their share of outlaws, gang bangers, drug dealers, bootleggers and the like. Smith County is a dry county thanks to all of the Baptists in town. Dudley wonders what the good folks at Green Acres Baptist Church think of the good pastor that bares it all on Sunday. Dudley really got a kick out of the warning on the nudie churches website warning parishioners to please not disrobe in the parking lot! That probably would tend to rile up the neighbors.

This Is A Tourby Classic Watch Enamel Dial Model ...

A1a. Dudley thinks it is a work of art as well as a finely crafted mechanical watch. It is made in Germany and has a Swiss movement. The white face enamel dial has bold black Arabic numerals for hours one through twelve with the exception of the six which is absent for the sub seconds dial in it's place. The outer rim of the dial has smaller blue Arabic numerals in five minute increments. Dudley is going to order his watch with the cut out blue spade hands shown for the hour, minute and second hands. The case has a double bezel and is of polished steel. You can watch the decorated movement keep time as it is housed in a glass back case. Dudley would prefer the 18 carat gold version but that will have to wait until he wins the Lottery. Dudley is going to order the genuine imported Louisiana Alligator Watch Band in blue as shown above which is hand stitched in Germany. The watch comes in a Maple Presentation box. It is going to take Dudley a while to save up the money to buy the watch. When he gets it, will post a photo to Dudley's Diary.

This Is A Stowa Marine Original ...

and when Dudley found it on the Internet, he thought he had found the watch he had been looking for. It is a hand crafted mechanical watch with the look of an old American Railroad Pocket Watch. The movement is Swiss made and the watch has a glass back and a beautiful white dial with black numbers and blued hands for hours minutes and seconds on the sub second dial. The watch is almost exactly what Dudley has been looking for. The only thing lacking is the dial does not have Arabic numbers which Dudley prefers. When Dudley found the Tourby watch, he knew the Stowa was no longer an option. The Tourby was as close as Dudley was likely to find to the perfect watch that was within his price range.

Dudley Has Always Been Fascinated With Watches ...

as least as long as he can remember. Dudley learned to tell time in school and remembers getting his first watch. It was a boys Timex with a brown band. It was a simple watch but it was a real mechanical watch. You wound it up and it made a wonderful ticking sound as it kept time. Sometime later, that little watch quit running and I replaced it with another one. My memory is fading but I think my next watch may have been like the Timex Cub Scout watch above. The next two photos are of the watch Dudley has been wearing for the last five or more years. It is a Seiko Railroad Approved Quartz Watch. The metal band that came with the watch broke a few weeks ago and Dudley replaced it with the leather band. The last photo is of a watch similar to the one Dudley wore in high school. Dudley's was a little different in that it had a black band and instead of the flags on the dial, it had a CAMARO emblem. Dudley's father bought him that watch. Sadly the watch, the Camaro and Dudley's dad are long gone. Gone but at least not forgotten. Dudley misses the old style mechanical watches. They were not as accurate and trouble free as a modern quartz watch. But they they had so much more character. Dudley is saving his money to buy a quality mechanical wrist watch. Dudley can't afford a Rolex White Face Daytona (the watch of his dreams) or a Chronoswiss or a Patek Philippe. Dudley has found there are a couple of companies in Germany making quality men's wrist watches using Swiss mechanical movements. They have enamel dials and look like an American Railroad Pocket Watch. They have glass backs so you can watch the operation of the watch as time ticks away. Dudley will have to settle for a polished steel case as the gold is too expensive. The watches are made by Stowa and Tourby and are in Dudley's opinion, functional works of art. Dudley will post some photos of these watches tomorrow.
